For our October stamp club, I decided to make a card project that featured the beauty of Fall. Another demonstrator in our group had the same idea, too! Both of us chose a few items from the Blackberry Beauty and the Beauty of the Earth suites.
Beauty of Tomorrow
My Beauty of Tomorrow cards use a piece of 3″ x 3″ designer series paper. I intend to show you how I made this small piece of DSP more interesting by cutting and arranging the pieces in various ways. As a result, you don’t need a large piece of designer series papers to make a big impact on the cards you make.
The simpler card version is on the left, and I actually made this card after I made the card on the right. We made the fancier card, on the right, at stamp club.
To make the “stepped up” version, we used parts of the two suites: Beauty of the Earth and Blackberry Beauty. But first, we embossed the card base using the Stitched Greenery die. I love this die because not only is it a background die, but when the card is opened, light shines through the holes of the “stitching.”
Next, we glued four 3/4″ strips, cut from a 3″ x 3″ piece, of Blackberry Beauty Designer Series Paper (DSP). Staggering the strips adds more interest to the background. One of the trees cut from the Beautiful Trees Dies was glued on top of the strips.
We finished the card by adding a linen thread bow on the tree, and adhered a sentiment. Make the sentiment with the two stamp sets: words from Beauty of Friendship and flowers from Beauty of Tomorrow. Then, add interest to the label ends with the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch.
Lastly, to finish off the inside of the card, we used stamps from the Beauty of Tomorrow stamp set.
Beauty of Fall
There were a few paper pieces leftover after our stamp club met, and I thought I would use them to make more cards. But instead of gluing the strips in the same way as the card above, I decided to vary the way I laid out the strips on each card. For these cards, I was lazy and didn’t die cut the backgrounds of the card bases, because I didn’t want to make the card appear to busy. Apparently, I had more strips than trees left, too! So one card doesn’t even have a tree.
Once the leftovers were used up, I got inspired to try cutting some more 3″ x 3″ DSP pieces a couple of different ways. Here are some more layouts of the pieces that I cut and arranged differently. Instead of cutting more trees, I added Blackberry Beauty Ephemera pieces. They work great for embellishment, too!
Beautiful Colors of Fall
What do you think of the colors used in the Blackberry Beauty DSP? At first, I thought it a bit odd to have a pink color in this fall paper, but then I started looking around my yard and saw the beautiful deep reds of sedum and pink aster plants flowering. As a result, the colors of my flowers reminded me of this paper and changed my mind about the color pink in fall!
Beauty of the Earth Bundle
We made another card at our October stamp club to remind us of the fall season. Mary, another demonstrator in our group, also had the same idea to use the Beauty of Friendship Bundle. This easel card was created with that bundle. We also used the Beauty of the Earth DSP to make the wonderful fall leaves on our tree. I simply love how mine turned out!
I admit that I have not played with this suite as much as I’d like yet, but I’ve been using my paper. And it’s almost gone! Below are some cards I made using other demonstrators’ ideas. Isn’t that DSP beautiful?!
The Blackberry Beauty and Beauty of the Earth DSP’s really reflect the beauty of fall. And are beautiful!! Designer series papers can add so much to a card layout, and you can use a small piece of it to make a big impact.
