It’s always fun for me to make flamingo cards because they remind me of warm weather and the beach. I actually have other flamingo stamp sets and each one is unique. But the Friendly Flamingo set has coordinating dies! So, I couldn’t pass this one up. Meet the outstanding friendly flamingo. Or should I say, flamingos?!
Stand Tall Shadow Box Card
This outstanding friendly flamingo is the perfect size to fit inside a shadow box card! And the 2021 – 2023 In Colors are the perfect combination to use make a flamingo. This is my first attempt at making this card style. I thought it would be difficult, but it is very easy. Just do a search for “shadow box card” and see what all comes up. There are some very good videos available to follow on-line.
Make a Flamingo Shadow Box Card
- Cut two pieces of cardstock measuring 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ for the front and back of the box. I used basic white and Pale Papaya.
- Score each piece along the long sides, at 1/4″, 1/2″, 3-3/4″, and 4″. (Make a landscape orientation by scoring along the short sides at 1/4″, 1/2″, 5″, and 5-1/4″).
- Die cut, or punch, in the front piece of cardstock where you desire the window.
- Fold both front and back pieces along the score lines to create a box when the two pieces are adhered together. But before doing this, go to step 5.
- Do any stamping you desire on the back piece. For my card, I stamped the vines in Soft Succulent.
- Next, stamp the flamingo in Polished Pink on Polished Pink cardstock, and die cut it. Then adhere it under the vines using dimensionals.
- Now comes the time to adhere the front and back together. To do so, use a strong adhesive like Tear ‘n Tape or Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Run a strip of tape between the 0″ and 1/4″ edge, and also between the 4″ and 4-1/4″ edge, of the back cardstock.
- Carefully align the coordinating front edges, one at a time, to the back cardstock and press together. This forms the shadow box.
- Next, stamp foliage and flowers with Evening Evergreen ink onto Soft Succulent and Fresh Freesia cardstock, then die cut.
- Also, stamp the sentiments on white cardstock.
- Arrange all pieces to the front of the card as desired, and embellish with In Color jewels.
More Outstanding Friendly Flamingos
I made two more flamingo cards with the stamps and dies. The white card is a one-layer card using the simple stamping technique. The Artistry Blooms Adhesive-Backed Sequins add just enough interest to give the impression of a bird wading in the water on a sunny day.
The Pool Party card and it’s colors are inspired by my pajama pants. Haha! Yes! I can find inspiration anywhere! Then to give the vines, in this card, a two-tone look, I picked up pool party ink first, on the stamp, and then touched the edges of the stamp in gray granite ink. The flamingo is die cut from Flirty Flamingo and Pale Papaya cardstock and colored the legs and beak with Blends markers.
An Outstanding Treat Holder
Not only are the flamingos fantastic in this bundled set, but the stamp sentiments are amazing, too. They’re outstanding! As a result, they can be used without any flamingo. Try adding one of the sentiments to a treat holder and wish someone an amazing day. Fill it with something good to eat, or posies, then hang it over the neck of a water bottle or on a door knob.
