We don’t have to go very far to find inspiration to create with the Field Journal stamp set. Just step out your back door! Stamp some Field Journal notecards. Stamp familiar images seen everyday like ducks, chipmunks, flowers, and ladybugs. Turn the note cards into thank you cards or write a quick line to greet a relative or friend.
A friend of mine asked if I could giver her some ideas to use the Field Journal rubber stamps. And not long ago, I needed a few thank you cards. As I dug through my current catalog stamp sets, I was pleasantly reminded of Field Journal. And the sentiments were perfect for my thank yous!
Stamp a Field Journal Flower Notecard
The first stamp image I used was to make a Field Journal flower notecard. At the time, I was in a purple mood, so I picked my Highland Heather blender pen to color the little flowers. I didn’t realize until I was coloring that it reminded me of my phlox that were in full bloom. and the smell of them is so beautiful this year! I glued a piece of Sahara Sand cardstock, that I previously embossed with the Tin Tile folder, directly to the Highland Heather card base. Then I tied a bow with some Braided Linen Trim around it. After that I mounted my picture onto Highland Heather cardstock, and added Stampin’ dimensionals to the back, and then adhered it off to the left of the bow.
Stamp a Field Journal Chipmunk Notecard
I made another Thank You card using the chipmunk. This little chipmunk looks just like the one running around my backyard! I haven’t decided if I’m annoyed with him yet or not, and so far he hasn’t been making himself a nuisance. He happened to be out one morning when my teenage granddaughter and I were having breakfast. “There’s that chipmunk,” I said to her. “We should name it,” she said, and I was wondering to myself, “Why?” But instead, I asked her, “What name would you give it?” “Steve,” she said, and this time I did ask, “Why?” “I don’t know,” was her reply. Then the conversation didn’t go any further because “Steve” ran off. Anyway, I used a scrap of Plaid Tidings DSP on “Steve’s” card to give a bit more interest. As a result, this card has a masculine and very “Fall” feel to it.
Make a Duck Notecard
The next card I made with the Field Journal stamp set used the duck. My coworker has chickens and ducks in her backyard, and I hear a lot of stories about them. One weekend, she and her husband caught a raccoon that was killing her birds. She’s recently acquired a male Mallard duck because one of the female ducks was showing signs of wanting to nest. Her duck’s name is James Pond. Guess who James Pond reminds them of? Yep, James Bond, with his white collar while wearing a suit. She gave me some of her chicken eggs, but wouldn’t let me pay her, so I made her this card. I’ll also be pulling out some retired chicken stamp sets to make her some other notecards, too. Mr. Pond was colored with watercolor pencils and Plaid Tidings DSP made a perfect backdrop for this card.
And a Ladybug Notecard
Stamp more Field Journal notecards. This time I combined the ladybug and berries images. I originally didn’t intend this to be a thank you card, although it may turn into one, since I need another one. The berries remind me of the blueberries that we eat just about everyday for breakfast in our house. I stamped them in a retired blue ink color and spritzed the images with water to make the ink bleed out on the cardstock. I like how it blurred the ink as a result. While that dried, I stamped and colored the leaf and ladybug. The word WONDERFUL comes from one of the sentiments, that I “fussy” inked with a Stampin’ Marker. Distressing the berries further, I used the Old World Paper embossing folder. The ribbon was found on the Clearance Rack recently, but I don’t know if it’s still there.
So, now let the colors and sights you see outside your back door inspire you to stamp your own field journal notecards!
