Wild Ferns Are Everywhere

Wild ferns are everywhere, if you’re looking. Wild ferns are even in the Stampin’ Up! annual catalog, and I’m glad. I first eyed them in the 2024 Spring Mini Catalog, and happily learned the stamps and dies carried over to the new annual catalog! So I acquired the bundle before the spring catalog expired.

Wild Ferns Appear Everywhere

Sometimes the catalog examples attract me to own a stamp & die bundle in the first place. And the Spring mini catalog contained multiple ones for me to CASE (copy and share everything). Each of these cards truly entice avid crafters to spend the time to make fancy cards. Because I spend the time to create them, I ensure these cards are gifted to those who appreciate this. Wild ferns appear everywhere in these cards. In addition, by CASEing, I find that inspires me to create my own ideas with the stamps and dies.

All four of the sentiments from the stamp set are reflected here. They represent all occasions which might require a card: thank you, sympathy, birthday, wedding, get well, encouragement, feminine, masculine, etc.

Simpler Wild Ferns

But what if you don’t have the time to spend creating fancy cards? Because, let’s face it, it takes time! As a result, I try to pick a favorite image I want to be the focal point and build around that. Then when I’m stuck for a layout, I look at other card/project examples in a catalog to help inspire me. But honestly, I don’t remember where this layout idea came from, as I’m catching up on my blog posts. Summer is my favorite season and I try to be outside as much as possible.

For this card, I found my Fern 3D embossing folder that sparked an idea. However, after I created this card, I realized I could make an even simpler version by not using the embossing folder at all, and it would look wonderful! But for the most part, this is a yellow-green monochromatic (one color) design except for the Pumpkin Pie sequins to accent. I love the monochromatic look because it’s not “color” busy. And this card is neither feminine nor masculine.

No Ferns Seen Here

As I mentioned, I look through the catalog to inspire me, and sometimes what inspires me has nothing to do with the stamp set I want to work with. This card is the perfect example! I’m intrigued by the Full of Life DSP, which I do not own yet. (I guess I’m waiting for a DSP sale. Be patient! One is bound to happen). I used the background/accent image. Can you pick out which sheet of DSP I was mimicking?

I dragged out all 10 of Brights ink pads and simply repeated stamping the same image with each different color. Then, I added a sentiment and ribbon. My ribbon is the black and white version of what’s currently available in the catalog, but I use what I have before I buy too much. All this color looks great – quite the opposite of a monochromatic look! But it’s simple in design.

Wild Ferns Challenge Accepted!

While I was making the yellow-green monochromatic card, an idea came to me to create a set of cards with each of the color scheme suggestions in the annual catalog. Here are four cards demonstrating color theory groups inside the annual Stampin’ Up! catalog, page 133. Again, summer weather and activities slowed me to finish this post but finally, I did it!

Monochromatic colors: Bubble Bath, Fresh Freesia and Petunia Pop.

Triadic colors: Fresh Freesia, Wild Wheat and Coastal Cabana.

Analogous colors: Summer Splash, Garden Green and Pretty Peacock.

Complementary colors: Melon Mambo and Pretty Peacock.

Can you tell I really like the fern dies? Which color combination do you like? I challenge you to create a set of cards that includes one of each monochromatic, complementary, analogous and triadic color schemes.

Wild Fern Supplies

To create your own set of Wild Fern cards for you own, you’ll need some of the following items at minimum. See the list and pick the item number to view and learn more about each product. By doing this, you can add what you like directly to your shopping cart!

In conclusion, I have one more last challenge for you. See how many ferns can you spot as you go about your day. After all, wild ferns are everywhere.
