The famous Christmas hymn, “O Holy Night” draws a picture of brightly shining stars and “a thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices.” I’ve been particularly drawn to this sentiment, from the the stamp set Hope & Peace. And because this reflects how I’ve been feeling this season, creating these cards came naturally. Allow me to share a few versions of my Christmas cards with punch art.
Starlit & Evergreen Border Punches
It was time to pull out and use my punches again, and seemed only right to combine them with the Wintry 3D and Merry Melody 3D embossing folders. I also had some glitter paper laying out in my craft area which helped inspire this card. The Starry Sky cardstock and Sweet Sorbet ink looked really nice with that. And as a result, this card came to be. “O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!” I love how this turned out!
Other Starry Versions
But because my supply of Starry Sky cardstock was low, I experimented with different papers. I thought gray might work. However, this color didn’t look as nice with the glitter paper. So, instead of backing the stars with glitter paper, I used vellum. And I punched the evergreen border with green cardstock. Then, I used the Lovely Labels Pick A Punch to make the sentiment for the front. “The weary world rejoices” sentiment is inside this next card. “Long lay the world in sin and error pining Till he appear’d and the soul felt its worth.”
In this last starry version, I’ve used some DSP. Both papers are retired. But after I punched the stars in the DSP, I inlaid the Starry Sky stars from the first card and added some Wink of Stella accent to them. This time I stamped the sentiment in Starry Sky ink, and adhered the leftover strip of the evergreen border. The glitter paper works with the DSP, in this instance. “A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices.”
Rejoice Weary World
As I’ve shared before, I’ve been enjoying CASEing this year’s July – December Mini Catalog. And because I can’t buy everything I like in the catalog, I try to make do with craft supplies/tools I already have. If you look on page 32, you can make a similar card using the Evergreen border punch. I was pleased with how this card turned out!
As you may have noticed, I did use some dies to make these cards, too. Some of them are retired, but I’ll share what is currently available in the supplies list.

And now, on this note, I conclude with some of the last words of the song:
“Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, Let all within us Praise His Holy name . . . forever!”
Have a Merry Christmas, everyone!!
The design with the blue stars is my favorite, but they’re all great!
Thank you!
