World Card Making Day

The Stampin’ Up! community celebrates World Card Making Day every October 1st. This year was no exception. I loved that anyone could sign up to participate via Zoom event and craft along to make three cards that afternoon! We also had the opportunity to purchase three stamp bundles to use and create three cards. I did not choose to purchase the bundles, at least, not at this time. But I crafted along just the same. Here’s what I made.

Three Cards

Making A Birthday Card

The first card we made together on the Zoom event was a birthday card. The leader created a card using the Cottage Rose bundle. This is a gorgeous bundle of flowers, but I was reminded by it that I already had a stamp set similar to it. I received a stamp set with the February 2020 Paper Pumpkin kit, called “Lovely Day.” It matches very well with my Summer Shadows dies.

A Lovely Summer Birthday

We stamped the images using the Crumb Cake ink, and colored with Stampin’ Blends markers. I fussy cut my main image flower, but die cut another flower and some leaves out of Crumb Cake cardstock. I added some pearls from my craft stash for more embellishment. It turned out “lovely.” Do you know you can use the Stampin’ Blends to color the pearls any color you wish?

Welcome World Card

The second card we made for World Card Making Day intended to use a new stamp bundle that will be featured in the 2023 January to June Mini Catalog. This catalog will be available in the new year. For my card, I chose to use a retired stamp set, Path to Greatness. The theme of this card was a doorway, or entry way, to welcome the receiver.

Maybe you can tell from the picture, this card size is smaller than usual, 3-1/2″ x 5,” when folded in half. We stamped our main image with Soft Succulent ink, then got out the Blending Brushes. We brushed Soft Succulent and Fresh Freesia inks over the image, instead of coloring it with markers or pencils. I fussy cut the columns, and added a sentiment, heart, and bow – a perfect all occasion card!

Cottage Wreaths

The last card we made together had a wreath as the main image. Again, I did not get the Cottage Wreaths bundle because I already had a bundle I wanted to try in its place, Decorated with Happiness. I used the same measurements, design pieces and color scheme as everyone else used, though.

The special technique used to create this card is called “color washing.” We used the Water Painters to wash ink onto Shimmery White cardstock, let it dry, then die cut the desired images. This technique gives some added dimensional appearance/interest to the die cuts. One holiday card is completed! Yay!

With plenty of inspiration, I’d say World Card Making Day was successful!
