Crafting On the Go is So Cool!

One of the reasons I love Paper Pumpkin kits is that I can pack part, or all of a kit in my suitcase, or take leftovers of other ones, when I travel. The last couple of months, my husband and I had to travel out of state for family reasons. But with just a little planning ahead of time, I can have everything I need to craft on the go. I gather some coordinating supplies, cut and score some extra paper, and tuck in a few craft tools. Then, when I have a little downtime I can make a quick project. Let me show you how paper crafting on the go is So Cool, using the April 2021 Paper Pumpkin kit, while I’m away from home!

So Cool Crafting

The March and April kits arrived just before we had to travel both times. So Cool! With the April kit, I knew I would be making a lot of alternate projects. The cutout cards are nice, but don’t allow much space for writing a special message inside, which I like to do when giving a card. I was able to make this kiwi bookmark before we left. I cut one of the kiwi cards apart to make this, and used the other half to make a different popsicle card by cutting the pretty envelope apart.

So Cool Traveling Tools

Both times, I took half of the Paper Pumpkin kits, along with a few extras. Pictured below, are some of tools I typically pack. All the items I take have to be able to pass the TSA checks. I use a pencil bag, a folder to hold the papers, and zip-lock bags to contain everything. Then some items I can take in my carry-on backpack and the others I tuck where I can in the suitcase. Also, I only take one spritzer and one water brush. All these items together give me a lot of flexibility, and allow me a variety of different crafting techniques.

Crafting On the Go is So Cool with Ink Spots and Adhesives

Of course, I pack a few ink spots. Four ink spots fit nicely inside a snack-sized zip-lock bag. A spritzer will fit inside the bag, too. Don’t forget to pack adhesives! I take non-liquid adhesives, and if you like runner adhesives, pack one refill, too. As I mentioned before, a little planning is required to do this. Then, whatever projects you decide to make while you are traveling, cut it back. If you are like me, you have more ideas than you can reasonably craft. Smile!

So Cool Projects On the Go

Here are some of the projects I made in one afternoon, on our last trip: One watermelon and popsicle card with envelopes, two alternate cards using the ideas from the instruction sheet, and three cards from the February 2019 kit, Grown with Kindness. I used my Take Your Pick Tool and the stencil shown above, to give the “oh, happy day!” card a little background texture. For the “you are so cool” card, I cut one envelope apart. Then used the patterned piece as the background and stamped the popsicles on the white piece. To color them, I added some ink directly to the acrylic block and brushed the color on with a water painter brush.

The hand-stamped watermelon card I made when I returned home, using the leftover piece from Grown with Kindness kit.

So Cool Sticker Challenge

I do not typically craft with stickers, so Paper Pumpkin kits that include them are challenging for me. I’ve collected stickers from other Paper Pumpkin kits, and the So Cool kit actually inspired me to combine these stickers with two past kits, A Box of Sunshine – May 2020, and A Kit In Color – June 2020.

And finally, here are two more cards that were inspired with the So Cool and past kits. “Hey there!” uses the front half of the popsicle card on the front and back of the card for the inside sentiment. The “Way to Go!” card uses strips of paper to make banners from the kits mentioned in this article.

Crafting on the go is So Cool! There’s still more pieces left from the kit, maybe they will get to go on another trip with me, or not, but it’s been fun!
