Toile Christmas Cardinals & Tidings

Toile Christmas Cardinals & Tidings, to you! I am excited to use the Toile Tidings Designer Series Paper (DSP) and Toile Christmas stamp set with Christmas Cardinal dies for another holiday season! So, you may be wondering, what does “toile” mean? It’s actually a French word that refers to a fabric or wallpaper design with intricate pastural or floral scenes on a white or off-white background, dating back to the 18th century.

The Toile Combination

Since I wasn’t able to add the stamps and dies to my collection last year, imagine my delight when Stampin’ Up! decided to put them in this year’s annual catalog! As a result, they are now part of my collection. The DSP is available in the August – December Mini catalog, again also! For the more than casual paper crafter, having the combination of these products is something to consider. I think they are beautiful!

Toile Christmas Cardinals

This month, I sent our stamp club members some sample pieces to make their own version of the cards seen below. One of my cards shows the cardinal and branch colored with blender markers, and also an embossed strip of paper using the Wrapped in Texture embossing folders. The other card shows an example of coloring the cardinal and branch with watercolor pencils. These examples are not “way over the top,” but I wanted to show that they don’t necessarily need to be, and can still be pretty cards.

For the next card, I added the last of a retired doily.

But don’t limit yourself to just using the cardinal stamps and dies with this paper. The DSP is more versatile than you may think. These cards are paired with stamped images from In the Pines and Dove of Hope sets.

If you’d like more instructions on how to make these cards, let me know by completing the Contact form. I’d be happy to give you more information.
