Sunny or Cloudy Fall Days Cards

Most people will say that one of their favorite things about Fall is the color of the season. Whether sunny or cloudy Fall days, the trees can put on quite a display of color this time of year. And now, in the upper Midwest, the peak color time is waning. But instead, the inspiration to celebrate and recreate these Fall scenes came from a source you may think unusual – a word game on my phone. Yes, you read correctly, the word game on my phone has inspired the colors and image layouts for these sunny or cloudy Fall days cards. So create two greeting cards with me, and without using white cardstock!

Sunny Fall Scene

Here is a Thanksgiving card using Crushed Curry cardstock. Well, the inside has a Thanksgiving saying that I plan to send to family. The word game scene actually had a reflection of the tree along the water’s edge, but I was not able to fit two tree images to the front of the card. As a results, I stamped one tree, but the idea of a sunset highlighting the leaf colors is still coming through. I used Fall ink colors. My Lovely Label punch gave the sentiment interest and a few Artistry Blooms sequins added just the right amount of sparkle.

Make a Sunny Fall Days Card

  1. Cut a card base from Crushed Curry CS that measures 4 1/4 x 11″, and fold in half to make a portrait style card. (The fold is at the top on the card and opens from the bottom).
  2. Cut another Crushed Curry piece of CS that measures 5 1/2 x 4″ to stamp images, using the Life Is Beautiful stamp set.
  3. Stamp tree and birdhouse with Early Espresso ink, leaves with Crushed Curry and Pumpkin Pie inks, and ground cover using Pumpkin Pie ink.
  4. Glue the stamped piece to the card front base.
  5. Cut another piece of Crushed Curry CS for the sentiment to measure 3 1/2 x 1″.
  6. Punch the ends of the sentiment strip using the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch.
  7. Select the “Life is Beautiful” sentiment and ink with Merry Merlot, then center and stamp to the Crushed Curry punched strip.
  8. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere sentiment strip over the tree trunk.
  9. Add a little sunshine sparkle with sequins from the Artistry Blooms Sequins pack to finish it off!

Cloudy Fall Days Greeting

This card reminds me of hunting season and uses Seaside Spray cardstock. I love how the textured background, from the Woodland embossing folder, reinforces the idea of a tree line. And only two ink colors were used, Early Espresso and Real Red, but it is enough. The word game scene was reminiscent of a cloudy or foggy sky in Wisconsin. The trees and fallen leaves come from the stamp set Winter Woods, and the sentiment comes from the Butterfly Wishes stamp set. A strip of the Faux Suede Trim and Rhinestone Basic Jewels embellish the sentiment.

Make a Cloudy Fall Day Greeting

  1. Cut a 5 1/2 x 8 1/2″ piece of Seaside Spray cardstock (CS) and fold in half to make a landscape card base.
  2. Emboss the card front using the Woodland embossing folder and embossing machine.
  3. Cut a 4 1/2 x 3 1/4″ piece of Seaside Spray CS to stamp the tree line.
  4. Stamp the trees with Early Espresso ink, twice.
  5. Stamp the ground cover with Real Red ink, using the stippled image. Repeat multiple times until satisfied.
  6. Ink and stamp the sentiment on a Seaside Spray piece of CS that measures 2 1/4 x 1/2″. Sentiment comes from Butterfly Wishes stamp set, and ink color is Early Espresso. Angle cut one end of the strip to add interest.
  7. Cut a strip of 1/4″ Faux Suede trim 3′ long and angle cut to match the sentiment strip. Glue piece to back of sentiment strip, then mount over the tree trunks image with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Add Rhinestone Basic Jewels, if desired, to embellish.
  8. Mount the image piece onto the embossed card front with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
  9. Complete by choosing an inside sentiment from your stash. I used the other half of the sentiment from the Butterfly Wishes set, “It was a perfect day”.
