Scenes of the River and Hills

Combine Waterfront, Snow Front, and My Meadow stamp sets to create scenes of the river and hills. Then make the scenes into greeting cards to share with others. Where I live, I have the blessing of being able to drive to and from work along the mighty Mississippi River and it cuts through some pretty impressive hills. It doesn’t matter which side of the river you are driving on, you will see river and hills. These scenes will not disappoint!

River and Hills Scene

When experimenting with the stamp sets together, I wanted to keep it simple. I cut a quarter sheet of cardstock and only used two inks, Seaside Spray and Mossy Meadow, to stamp the scene.

First, I chose various hill images and stamped them toward the top of the paper. Next, I stamped some different tree images to make it look like river islands, in the middle of the scene. After having completed that, I picked some different images I could use to create some waterways of the river, and stamped around the trees and filled in the bottom of my paper. If you like putting puzzles together, then you have an idea of how I stamped the water.

When I finished my scene of the river and hills, I only liked part of the scene I stamped, so I trimmed the paper to save what I did like. As a result, the scene was smaller than I originally intended. So, I mounted this piece onto Mossy Meadow cardstock, and added a stamped embellishment and sentiment from the Very Versailles stamp set. The Seaside Spray card base was embossed using the Old World Paper 3D embossing folder. White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon worked perfectly to complete this card.

Same Scene with Three Colors of Ink

Using another quarter sheet of white cardstock, I decided to add another ink color, Highland Heather, for the hills. Again, I used Mossy Meadow for the trees, and Seaside Spray ink for the water. I really liked how these colors worked together, and used the Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder to make the paper scene look like a painted canvas. The sentiment comes from the His Love stamp set and I punched it with the Story Label and Label Me Fancy punches. Then, I threaded the polka dot tulle ribbon through the label to give just the right added touch to finish this card off.

12 Tuesdays Tip

Background images look better when using lighter ink colors, and the images in the foreground look better using the darker inks. I find this look to be more appealing. For example, if you should use Soft Suede (or another dark color) ink to stamp the hills, and then you stamp over the hills with Mossy Meadow ink, the hills will show through the trees and I did not like this look, as well.
