Whale Of A Time Suite – Loving the Ocean

Whale Of A Time is one of my favorite suites. As I have shared before, I love visiting the ocean, and “My love for you is bigger than the ocean!” is my favorite sentiment in the Whale Done stamp set. I discovered while I was playing with this set, that it would make very pretty but simple stamped cards, as well as more detailed ones. In this post, I will have a project for three levels of crafting: beginner, casual and an avid crafters.

Have a Whale of a Time Making an Easy Ocean Scene – Beginner

All 8 colors of the Classic Stampin’ Spots Assortment and a Whisper White Note Card & Envelope were used to make this card quickly! All the images and two of the sentiments were used. I also stamped the envelope, and if you look at the two photos you will have the idea.

Make the Ocean Scene:

  1. Select one card base and lay it on a flat surface. I suggest having a piece of scrap paper underneath.
  2. Select a stamp image and mount it on the acrylic block.
  3. Open one of the ink spots, and lay the acrylic block on a flat surface with the stamp face up, dab ink spot onto the image to transfer ink.
  4. Pick up the acrylic block, turning the image toward the card front, and gently press the inked image evenly onto the paper. Hold the image still for a few seconds before lifting, to make sure the ink transfers to the card base.
  5. Repeat steps 3 – 5 with the stamp image, as desired.
  6. Before switching to use a different image or different ink color, the stamp should be cleaned before removing from the acrylic block. This can be done with a soft rag and water, then dried.

Whale of a Time DSP – Casual Crafter

The Whale of a Time DSP card requires a few more supplies and cutting/distressing techniques. Interest for this card comes from the textures used.

Step It Up

Supply List for DSP Card:

Make the DSP Card:

  1. Cut papers: one card base 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and fold in half, two pieces of whisper white 5 1/4″ x 4″, and one piece of DSP 5″ x 3 3/4″
  2. Stamp sentiment, heart, fish, and seahorses.
  3. Optional: Rough up the edges of the DSP and one piece of white cardstock. I have a tool that I use, but you can take the edge of a scissors blade and run the sharp edge carefully along all the edges of the paper until you have the desired look.
  4. Layer the DSP on top of one white piece of cardstock, adhering with liquid glue, and then layer the two papers onto the card base in the same manner.
  5. Scatter a few sequins around on the DSP to your liking, and glue each sequin to the paper with a small dot of liquid glue.
  6. Stamp a sentiment, and desired images, on the remaining piece of white cardstock and adhere to the inside of the card.

I will not be giving instructions on how to make this one. Wink! But, please, go to YouTube and search for “Step Card.” As a result, you will be able to find any variation of Step Card you desire to make.
